We all have psychic ability. For some, it bursts through in powerful flashes. For most, it hums quietly in the background, waiting to be noticed, nurtured, and practiced. Like any muscle, if you don’t use it, it atrophies. But with practice, you can strengthen your intuitive faculties and trigger your inner guidance GPS to be at the ready when you need it.
In this post — the final in our 5-part Psychic Insights Series — I’ll share surprising and unconventional ways to flex your psychic muscle. These aren’t the typical “light a candle and meditate” tips you’ve heard before. They’re techniques I’ve explored personally, drawn from both research and lived experience. None require special equipment or prior training — just your willingness to try.

1. Sense the Rhythms of Nature
Most people look up an astrology app or calendar to know when Mercury is retrograde or when the full moon is approaching. But what if you trained yourself to feel it? Subtle shifts in energy often show up in our moods, our bodies, even on our skin. Pay attention to sensations that don’t quite match the outer conditions — a sudden unease, a pull in your gut, tingling in your arms. Over time, you’ll begin to match these cues with planetary rhythms. This strengthens the bridge between intuition and cosmic timing.

2. Play with Guided Imagery
Psychic development often works best through imagination — the language of the right brain. One experiment described by parapsychologist D. Scott Rogo involved walking a subject through a guided journey (imagine a meadow, the sky, the hill ahead…) while another person focused on a hidden target image. The subject then reported what they “saw” at the end of the meadow — often matching the unseen target. The point: Imagination isn’t fake. It’s a gateway to information outside of the five sense framework. This technique could be viewed as another form of non-local perception known as remote viewing – a process by which a person is asked to identify a designated target by tapping their non-local mind.
Try this yourself: create an inner scene and ask a friend to focus on an image or word. Walk through the scene in your mind, and notice what arises at the “end of the path.” Compare notes afterward. You may be surprised.
I’m so sorry to interrupt you but why do I keep hearing the name “Chris” in my head?

3. Notice Spontaneous Messaging
Sometimes psychic hits arrive unannounced, like urgent whispers. You might feel a sudden push to say something, a shift in tone, or a sense of urgency. These are spontaneous messages — they break through without effort. The trick is learning to notice when it’s different from your usual thought stream. Keep a mental note (or journal entry) when this happens. Over time, you’ll learn to trust the feel of a true message versus ordinary chatter.
I’ve had this sort of spontaneous messaging happen to me on many occasions. I distinctly recall having a Zoom meeting with a colleague several years ago whose name was Jim. All throughout the meeting, as he was speaking I heard “a voice” in my mind repeating the name Chris… Chris… Chris! It got so intense and urgent, I couldn’t help but interrupt the conversation midway through to ask Jim, “I’m so sorry to interrupt you but why do I keep hearing the name Chris in my head?” The look on Jim’s face said it all! With wide eyes — clearly dumbfounded, Jim revealed that Chris was actually his middle name — the one his closest friends always used.

4. Try Dowsing with a Friend
Pendulums have been used for centuries to gain yes/no answers, but here’s a twist: have someone else ask the question about you. For example, your partner asks, “Did Alexis go to the dentist this week?” They hold the pendulum, but only you know the answer. In repeated experiments, accuracy rates often climb higher than chance. This isn’t about the pendulum itself — it’s about your body acting as an antenna, translating subtle intuitive responses. Practiced regularly, it sharpens both awareness and trust in subtle cues.

5. Train Your Peripheral Vision
Clairvoyant impressions often appear at the edges of vision — quick sparks of light, fleeting shadows, or color glimmers. The peripheral field picks up more of the unseen spectrum. To strengthen this, try exercises that expand your peripheral awareness. Fix your gaze straight ahead on a painting or screen, while noting as many objects as you can at the edges of your sight. Over time, this builds sensitivity to subtle visual shifts, making it easier to notice energy and movement in the unseen field.

6. Practice the “Fist Squeeze”
A surprisingly simple exercise: squeeze your left fist tightly for 10–15 seconds, then release. This action stimulates the right hemisphere of the brain — the seat of imagination, intuition, and creativity. While originally used to jog memory, it can also serve as a reset button to open your psychic channel. Use it before meditation, journaling, or intuitive exercises.
Closing Thoughts
Your psychic ability isn’t “out there.” It’s built in. But like a muscle, it requires use. Whether through sensing planetary rhythms, playing with imagery, practicing peripheral awareness, or experimenting with pendulums, each practice awakens the natural antenna within you.
You don’t always need to run to a psychic for answers — though there are times when outside perspective can help. Instead, let readings and psychic consultations serve as mirrors and training grounds, while you build your own intuitive strength.
Remember: the more you use your psychic tools, the sharper they become. Start small, stay consistent, and watch your awareness expand.
